BIRTH FAMILY

As a member of the Birth Family, you will have certain information that will guide you in your search.

You probably know ...

Birth Surname
Birth Parent Names
Date of Birth
Place of Birth
Place of Relinquishment
Circumstances that Led to Relinquishment
Background Information on Birth Family

The information you have will make some sources of information useful, and others useless.  For instance, it would do you little good to find a legal notice regarding the relinquishment if all it contains is Birth Family information.  You are seeking facts about the child AFTER relinquishment.

Note:  If you are a birthparent who is unable to remember exact dates, times or places of the birth, you are not alone!  Memories are kept alive by recall, sharing stories and keeping mementos.  Trauma, and the demand for secrecy, often make a person unable to accurately remember events that took place.

There are many helpful Internet forums where those who have experienced the birth and relinquishment of a child can discuss their situations.  If you are thinking about searching, you want to be ready for ALL that might come of a reunion.  We would be happy to furnish names of groups that are supportive and educational for the person who would like to find his or her birthchild.
